Senior NetSuite Consultant Markus has grown in his career thanks to his own efforts and the support of his team

Who: Markus Björs, Senior NetSuite Consultant

Before joining Staria, I worked in accounting at a technology company, focusing mainly on sales invoicing and project controller's tasks. I learned a lot about how financial processes work in practice, but after a while, I started craving more challenges and opportunities to grow. Staria reached out to me at just the right time. Although I only knew the company by name, I quickly became interested in the NetSuite Consultant position they offered. I was already familiar with NetSuite from a user’s perspective, and this new role would allow me to dive deeper into the system side, which matched my interests perfectly. In the past I’ve taught myself coding, which showcases my interest towards systems and has also been useful in my current job.

I started at Staria in 2023 as a NetSuite Consultant. At first, I worked mostly in supporting tasks, but soon I moved on to implementation projects. My typical workday includes customer meetings, handling support requests, and pushing projects forward.

Working with trustworthy colleagues gives space for focus and brings peace of mind

During my first year as a consultant, I developed a lot. At Staria, you’re encouraged to ask questions and learn, and help is always available when you need it. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to bombard my colleagues with questions—it’s been crucial for my growth. The team’s support means a lot, and Staria has a diverse group of NetSuite consultants, so there’s always someone to turn to no matter the challenge. Our team has a lot of expertise and experience, both in different NetSuite functionalities and with clients from various industries. Sharing knowledge is a big part of our culture, so everyone can benefit from each other’s know-how. Clear practices and structured information sharing help us consultants, but they’re also a huge advantage for our clients. We don’t just run around putting out fires, we focus on building solutions that truly fit our clients’ needs.

Working in a good team is rewarding, but this job also requires you to be self-driven and comfortable with uncertainty, since ready-made answers doesn’t always exist. You need to know how to dig for information and apply it, and persistence is key. On the flip side, working independently gives you freedom, and taking responsibility feels rewarding. At Staria, independence and teamwork go hand in hand—you can plan your work and solve clients' challenges your own way, but you’ll always get support from the team when you need it. I get to focus on my own projects and make decisions independently, but I know my team is there to back me up and brainstorm if I run into tough situations. At Staria, everyone is very approachable, from colleagues to management, so no one is left alone with their problems.

Becoming a Senior Consultant through persistence and initiative

In spring 2025, I was promoted to Senior Consultant. As a Senior, I can take responsibility for larger projects, support other team members, and tackle complex issues independently. In this role, you learn best by taking on new things and figuring them out proactively—you can’t just wait for detailed instructions. Because I work with both support requests and implementation projects, I’ve had the chance to interact with a wide range of clients and challenges. This has helped me build up knowledge and experience quickly, and now colleagues come to me with questions, not just the other way around.

Besides solving technical challenges, communication with clients and within the team requires accuracy and patience, especially when dealing with large and complex projects. Communicating with clients is easier because I worked with NetSuite as a user in my previous job and helped develop the system alongside NetSuite consultants. Now, as a consultant myself, I can use that valuable experience to help and communicate with clients. I always want to give clients a clear understanding of why things are done a certain way, without them needing to get lost in the details.

Satisfied clients, learning new things, and being able to help my colleagues solve tough problems are the best parts of my job. I enjoy brainwork and figuring out difficult issues, and seeing that my work brings real benefits to clients is always rewarding and motivating. I recharge from mental work by exercising, so the company’s sports benefit gets plenty of use.

Continuous growth in an international environment

Staria is an international company, and when I started, I was part of the Norway team. Later, after an organizational change, I moved to the Finland team, but the work is still very international—clients and colleagues can be from anywhere in the world. Remote work is a normal part of my routine; my client might be in Vilnius, and my teammates in Stockholm, Turku, or Prague. Still, I like to visit our Helsinki office now and then, it’s nice to see people from other teams too.

Staria encourages continuous learning, and for example, it’s possible to pursue NetSuite certifications. There are plenty of career development opportunities: you can move up the career ladder all the way to an architect, or deepen your expertise in a specific area, either in finance or system side. You can shape your own path based on your interests. My plan for the near future is to keep developing as a professional and deepen my expertise even further.

My career at Staria has been full of learning, challenges, progress, and successes. Every day brings something new, and that’s what makes this job so interesting. I’m grateful for the chance to grow and develop, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
